Meet the People of Calvary

The Congregation of Calvary Presbyterian Church

The congregation of Calvary Presbyterian Church is made up of people of varied backgrounds, political affiliations, interests and talents.  What brings us together is our firm belief in being a Christian community and growing together in God’s love.  Take a few moments to meet some members of our congregation...

Meet the People

Betty Winchell: Betty is a transplanted Kansas sunflower, arriving in Oregon at age seven.  A year later a neighbor friend invited Betty and her sisters to attend Sunday School at then Unity Presbyterian (now Calvary Presbyterian) Church.  So 70+ years later she is still here.  Betty accepted Christ as my savior, was baptized and joined the church at age twelve.  After college and one year in California--while her husband Dick was in the service--they returned to Calvary and assumed the responsibilities of working with the Junior High youth for more than 25 years.  After a career of 30 years in education--preschool for Betty, elementary education for Dick--they organized and directed Calvary’s Cooperative Preschool for nine years.  The Preschool is now completing its 22nd year.  Betty has five children (four daughters and one son), twelve grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.  She has also served as a Sunday School and Junior Church teacher, an elder, a deacon, and am now one of the Calvary Bell Ringers.

Debby, Kevin, Mary Rose and Alice Holland: Debby Holland started going to Calvary with her family, after being baptized as a baby.  It has been a joy for her to return to Calvary and see her friends here (who used to be her Sunday School teachers!).  Debby has many fond memories from the various projects and activities she has participated in throughout the years, including currently serving on the Board of Deacons.  Today, Debby, Kevin and their two daughters, Mary Rose (age 12) and Alice (age9) attend Calvary.  They are inspired by the dedication of the congregation, and as a family at Calvary feel a sense of community with the church as a whole.

Calvary Leadership

Pastor Ian Doescher, Stated Supply Pastor

Ian is thrilled to begin his pastoral ministry at Calvary Presbyterian Church.  Ian is a graduate of Yale Divinity School with his M.Div. and is currently working on his Ph.D. through Union Theological Seminary (New York).  Ian loves spending time with his family: his spouse the Reverend Jennifer Creswell, Priest-in-Charge at St. Luke the Physician Episcopal Church in Gresham, and his two sons, Liam and Graham.  In his spare time, Ian is a singer/songwriter, dabbles in web site design and has a long-lasting (if unfortunate) love for the Seattle Mariners.  You can reach him at pastorian9@gmail.com.
